Nobel and Brick Barns
Remenham Hill, Berkshire
At DH Bond Civil Engineering Contractors Ltd, we take pride in delivering premium landscaping and groundwork solutions—and this award-winning barn conversion project stands as our most intricate landscaping undertaking to date.
Working closely with our clients and renowned landscape designer Peter Williams, we helped transform the exterior of this dual-barn property into a cohesive, elegant, and functional outdoor space.

Bespoke access & driveway construction
The project began with the creation of new access points for both Brick Barn and Nobel Barn, allowing the clients to live onsite while work progressed. We constructed a temporary access track from the upper end of the property, linking it to existing parking areas.
For Nobel Barn, we removed overgrown trees and vegetation to form a new bell-mouth entrance from the main road. This allowed us to build a durable and visually appealing driveway using layered MOT Type 1 sub-base, metal edging, and a permeable plastic grid system filled with hand-selected decorative chippings. At the road junction, we carefully laid and pointed reclaimed cobbles to maintain an authentic aesthetic.
Precision soft landscaping & tree planting
Using our 11-tonne excavator, we completed all groundwork and excavation for soft landscaping along the driveway. We imported high-quality planting soil and used a forklift to strategically place trees, shrubs, and bushes that define the entryway and lead towards the property.
A combination of aggregates was chosen to complement large tree bases between the driveway and the main building, adding texture and visual interest.
Pathways, lawn, and outdoor features
Around the barns, we laid pre-cast concrete paving slabs, spaced evenly and filled with matching aggregate—except for the patio area, where slabs were tightly joined to create a seamless surface. These same slabs formed a stepped walkway leading to the beautifully designed Rotunda Lawn, which we fully excavated, shaped, turfed, and edged to create an inviting circular lawn enclosure.
The rear driveway and parking area at Nobel Barn mirrored the front driveway in both method and materials, ensuring consistency across the site.
Brick barn landscaping & finishing touches
The driveway for Brick Barn was built using compacted MOT Type 1 layers and edged in metal, topped with fine grit and a plastic grid system filled with matching decorative chippings. We enhanced the edges with trench planting of shrubs, followed by large-scale tree and shrub planting across the entire site. We completed topsoiling, ground shaping, and seeding preparation to bring the vision to life.
